The Fight Between Giants: A Research on the Dynamics of Leibniz as An Opponent of Descartes

本文试图从"活力之争"这段著名的科学史公案入手,探究莱布尼茨与笛卡尔的力的概念之差别的根源。通过对两个体系的比较研究,我们将阐明动力学核心概念的物理学含义及其形而上学基础,从而对这种"新科学"的基本特征做出初步的刻画。

Starting from the well-known 'vis viva controversy' in the history of science, this paper attempts to explore the deepreasons of the distinctions between Leibniz's and Descartes' concepts of force. By means of considering the two systems together, wewill illuminate the physical signification and the metaphysical foundation of the main concepts in Leibniz's dynamics, andaccordingly describe the fundamental characters of this 'new science'.
