This paper describes the synthesis of 4'-formyl dibenzo-18-crown-6(2), 4'-buto-xycarbonyl dibenzo-18-crown-6(3), 4'-hydroxymethyl dibenzo-18-crown-6(4) and 4'-car-boxy dibenzo-18-crown-6(5). The reaction of β,β'-dichloroethyl ether with catechol gives1,2-bis(2'-(2'-chloroethoxyl) ethoxyl) benzene(1) in the presence of polyethylene glycol(phase transfer catalyst). 2 and 3 were prepared respectively by the reaction of 1 with 4-substituted catechools in BuOH, Reduction of 2 and hydrolysis of 3 afford 4 and 5, respec-tively.
