A number of chiral amines were prepared from (R)-2-amino-1-butanol and usedas chiral catalysts in the addition of thiophenol to chalcone. An optically active additionproduct was obtained and its specific rotation and the half-time t_(112) of the reaction dependedupon whether the carbon atom number of group R in catalysts was even or odd. Also stu-died were the effects of solvents and the structure and concentration of catalysts on the as-ymmetric catalysis.
