The Makropoulos Case at its best in Salzburg Festival

OUTLINE In line with the two previous Janacek productions at Salzburg (From the House of the Dead and Katya Kabanova),this was indeed music theatre at its best.It was director Christoph Marthaler's sixth production in Salzburg Festival.The set(by Anna Viebrock) cleverly served all three acts—the respective scenes determined by the protagonists and their costumes. Esa-Pekka Salonen led the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra with distinct authority and consideration for his cast.
