As a Victorian novelist,George Eliot is adept in music playing and correlative music criticism writing.Her command of musical capacity is far beyond her counterparts.Music is overwhelmingly popularized in Victorian society and can also find its way in Eliot＇s novels,such as the conspicuous function of music in The Mill on the Floss,which profoundly influences the fate of the protagonist,Maggie.The present essay intends to adopt The Mill on the Floss as a case study to analyze gender and class from the angle of musical projection and unveils the author＇s Utopia idealism.
