赛珍珠在80年前采取彰显文化差异的异化策略翻译了中国古典名著《水浒传》,其原因和意义值得深思,然而现有相关研究却不多见。赛杂合的文化身份是解释其翻译策略选择行为的关键内因。赛著译的异化语言乃是源于其以汉语为基础的思维模式,中国文学文化和传统教育对赛选择异化策略有潜移默化的影响。除此以外,赛对水浒的浓厚兴趣和与中国学者合作的翻译方式也增加了译作的异化程度。以上诸因素促成了赛译水浒在文学形式、文本形式和文化形式三方面的异化风格。

It is striking that Pearl Buck chose foreignization to translate the Chinese classic Shui Hu Zhuan 80 years before. Her cultural identity is an underlying reason. Buck＇ s thinking style, which is strongly Chinese -influenced and therefore Chinese -based, also serves as a key factor in deciding translation strategies. In addition, Buck＇ s interest in Shui Hu Zhuan and the cooperation with Chinese scholars promote the foreignlzed extent of the source text. These factors altogether contribute to Buck＇ s foreignizing translation style.
