On the Mistakes and Omissions in Sha Menghai's The Catalog of Chinese Calligraphy History

《中国书法史图录》(沙孟海编著)自出版以来,泽溉后学良多,在中国古代书法研究方面具有重要意义,在学界也享有极高的地位。然百密一疏,虽大贤亦有所不免。由于多种原因,此书在编撰过程中,在配图、文字、排版、校审诸方面出现了一部分明显的失误和疏漏。基于实事求是之原则,在力所能及的范围内,对已发现的问题予以指明匡正,以免以讹传讹;同时,也可为此书之再度修订出版提供参考。至于书中所收部分作品的真伪问题,虽笔者心有所疑,仍存而勿论,以俟他日深究。

The Catalog of Chinese Calligraphy History,edited by Sha Menghai,has had a great impact on the latter scholars since it was published.And it not only hasplayed a vital role in the research of ancient Chinese calligraphy,but also enjoyed a high rank in the academic circle.However,as the old saying goes,＂even Homer sometimes nods.＂ Much as he was considerate when compiling,there are some imperfections in this book.For example,as a result of various reasons,there are conspicuous mistakes and careless omissions in figure captions,words,type setting,review and so on.This paper aims to point out these imperfections and correct them on the fact-based principle as possible as I can lest these imperfections should mislead the readers again.Meanwhile,this paper seeks to be a reference for its next revision and publishment.As for the authenticity of some works in this book,that is still a question in my mind.So I am going to do further study and discuss it later.
