A Formalist Analysis of the Semantic Generation of Denominal Verbs

本文旨在论证名源动词的语义生成受制于先验的运算机制。文章运用形式化分析手段，即名源动词的句法推导机制和“生成词库”的语义生成机制，着重分析了名源动词在句法推导中形成的结构关系和“生成词库”的语义生成机制的共同制约下的微观语义生成过程。研究发现，名源动词的句法推导规定了其语义生成的结构路径；“生成词库”的语义生成机制依次发挥作用，构建名源动词的语义特征；形式化分析可以解释名源动词的体特征、体跨类以及事态内在结构等语义现象。本研究的结论是：词汇语义的生成在一定程度上要受制于先验的运算机制。

This paper argues that the semantic generation of denominal verbs is subject to innate computational mechanisms. A formalist analysis,based on the mechanism of syntactic derivation of denominal verbs and that of semantic generation in Generative Lexicon, is devoted to the microscopic process whereby the meaning of a denominal verb is generated under the joint constraints of the structural relationship resulting from its syntactic derivation and the semantic mechanisms in Generative Lexicon. It is found that syntactic derivation determines the structural route along which a denominal verb has its meaning generated, that the semantic mechanisms in Generative Lexicon are responsible for the step-by-step build-up of its semantic features, and that the semantic traits of a denominal verb concerning its aspectual property, aspectual shift and eventuality structure receive a plausible account in the formalist analysis. A tentative conclusion is that innate computational mechanism plays a role in the generation of lexical meaning.
