Nuclear factor KB (NF-κB) is a family of inducible transcription factors that are expressed in a wide vari- ety of cells and tissues, and responsible for regulating the transcription of the expression of a large cohort of genes in- volved in innate and adaptive immunity, inflammation, cellular stress responses, cell adhesion, apoptosis and prolifera- tion. Data demonstrate that increased NF-κB activity plays a key role in the physiological and pathophysiological states of pancreatic diseases. Targeting the classical pathway of NF-κB through the inhibition of the IKK complex has been pro- posed as a useful therapeutic approach to the treatment of pancreatic diseases. In this review, we summarize the NF-κB signaling transduetion pathway and provide the current understanding of the regulation and function of this transcription factor in pancreatic diseases.
