高等学校档案是指高等学校从事招生、教学、科研、管理等活动直接形成的对学生、学校和社会有保存价值的各种文字、图表、声像等不同形式、载体的历史记录。是综合性的档案体系,办好学校的基础工作之一,也是衡量学校教育质量及管理水平的一个重要标志。它在高校正常运转的过程中承担着不可替代的作用,为学校教学、科研、人事、基建等多方面工作提供基础和保障,也承担着服务社会的责任。做好高校档案工作,不仅有利于学校的建设和发展,更是严肃历史、服务现在、负责将来的积极表现。

The archives in colleges and universities are those historical records in such forms as writing, diagrams, sounds and images that are valuable to the students, institutions and society, they were reserved when the activities of the enrollment, teaching, scientific research and management of the colleges and universities were being conducted. Archives management is an integrated system, the basic work of the colleges and universities as well as the marks measuring their teaching and administration levels and it plays an irreplaceable role in running colleges and universities, which provides the basis and guarantee for the research, personnel, and infrastructure. Doing the archives work well will be beneficial to the development and construction and prove to be a positive way of showing history and responsible for now and the future of the colleges and universities.
