Zhang Jindong,Chairman of Suning Corporation(Suning),a leading chain retailer of home appliances and consumer electronic products in China,said recently,'Suning will combine the models of Wal-Mart and Amazon.' The total sales of US retail giant Wal-Mart in the previous fiscal year is USD408.2 billion, and that of the largest online retailer Amazon is USD34.2 billion.Compared to that,Suning's sales revenues are expected to reach RMB180 billion(USD28.2 billion) this year,and its online sales RMB7 billion(USDl billion). While Wal-Mart mainly focus on offline retailing and Amazon does online business only, Suning wants to develop both online and offline despite that it falls behind in size and scale.So, how can it possibly achieve that? To reach the goal,Suning has made a series of careful plans,including opening more offline stores, setting up logistical bases,inventories and databases,etc.You can see Suning frequendy invested at various places with huge sums of money these years. Zhang says he will establish an open platform,a transparent online ecosystem, to realize open collaboration among vendors of products, contents,services and logistics.It sounds great,but things are easier said than done.Let's wait and see.
