Following points were briefly described, including common defects producing in carburized and hardened gear, heat treating of gear before being carburized, carbon potential values of carburizing atmosphere and selection of hardening temperatures after carburizing for gear steels such as 20CrMo,20CrMnMo,20CrNi2Mo,20Cr2Ni4 and 18Cr2Ni4W.
