开放式软件保护模式恢复并发扬了久违的程序员精神——自由、开放、创新和共享，并推翻了微软的话语霸权，重新修订了“我做了操作系统，你付钱”的旧有的游戏规则，开创了“我给你一个更好的操作系统，外加源代码，你可以修改，也可以自由拷贝，但不要去限制别人”的新的游戏规则。本文通过对传统软件保护模式的不足进行探讨，介绍了自由软件模式的产生过程，从而分析了自由软件存在的原因。
