摘要
The Indian River Valley civilization, one of the Four Ancient World Civilizations, had declined and finally extinguished. It contributed little to the succeeding civilization. Previous research on the subject suffered from the lack of enough evidence in making explanations. This paper holds that the extinction of the Indian River Valley civilization was caused by two important reasons. One is that overexploitation of the natural resources aggravated the ecological environment, which finally endangered the civilization. Another has much to do with its superstructure realm, which lagged far behind the economic development. Such a lesson still remains significant as to the present social development.
