Content negotiation is one of the important components of English learners' 'oral interaction. This paper analyzes quantitatively and qualitatively the recorded corpus of 60 English majors in higher and lower grades undertaking picture description and discussion in pairs. The results indicate that there are three ways to carry out content negotiation : cut in the turn, grab of the turn and shift of the turn, among which grab of the turn is used most frequently while shift of the turn is rarely used; I2 proficiency has no significant effect on content negotiation; task types do have a significant impact on content negotiation, significantly influencing the use of supportive response, supplement and shift of turn.
