The Wind - Up Bird Chronicle is one of Murakami Haruki' s important works when he settled in the United States, aiming at realistic and fantastic tendencies, and containing elements of physical violence, through the historical review of the Nomonhan Battle. This author believes that the judgments of literary works can only be based on the image of the work rather than the writer' s confession outside the work. In this sense, this novel actually focuses on disclosure of Japanese view of the Soviet Union, and the artistic summary of modem Japanese - Soviet relations by the Japanese intellectuals. The Japanese Mamiya expressed his fear and hate of the Soviet Union Boris in nature.
