Charies C. Fries' Theory of Language Communication and Signals Grammar

ＣｈａｒｌｅｓＣ．Ｆｒｉｅｓ是美国结构语言学的一位代表，但在许多方面又有别于其他结构语言学家。本文拟对Ｆｒｉｅｓ的语言交际理论和信号语法进行分析和讨论。从分析中我们可以看出，Ｆｒｉｅｓ把言看作交际的一种工具，把语言形式看作传递意义的信号，注意话语的整个过程，重视受话人的反应，考虑语言的意义。他运用结构语言学的方法，对英语的结构作了深入的描述。

Charles C. Fries is an important figure of American strUctUral linguistics but he distinguishes himself inseveral respects. This paper is an attempt to discuss his theory of language communication and signals grammar.The discussion shows that Fries pays attention tO the Whole process of discourse and takes meaning into account.He regards linguistic forms as signals of meaning. His use of the structuralism method leads to an insightfuldescription of the strUctUre of English
