摘要
20世纪30年代,在严重国难的背景下,如何整顿和发展中国的高等教育并进而实现中国教育的现代化,成为国内各界关注的焦点问题。立身于教育领域的胡适、傅斯年、丁文江等自由主义知识分子以《独立评论》为话语平台,从实用主义的角度,对大学的学科布局、培养宗旨、指导思想以及大学的社会职能等问题,发表了自己的见解和主张,认为,大学文科与实科应平衡发展、求知与应用并行不悖、党化与教育势不两立、学术与救国互通并重,等,这些主张推动了中国高等教育的改革和发展。
In the 1930s,China was on the verge of being conquered by foreign invaders.At such a critical time,people from all walks of life began to think about how to integrate and develop our higher education institutions so as to realize educational modernization in China.Taking Independent Review magazine as a discussion forum,liberal intellectuals interested in education,including Hu Shi,Fu Sinian,Ding Wenjiang,etc.wrote quite a few articles to express their views and opinions concerning the disciplinary arrangement,educational purposes,guiding principles as well as social functions of the university.Their valuable suggestions had promoted the transformation and development of higher education in early modern China.Through a close reading of Independent Review magazine,the present study aims to interpret those liberal intellectuals' ideas of university education,and outline the historical evolution of higher education in China.
