Raymond Williams was a well - known contemporary British Marxist literary critic. In his cultural studies, he proposed the ＂common culture＂ ideology, which discarded the cultural traditions of I.eavis. It regarded equality of life as a prerequisite, based the ＂common culture＂ on a culture of freedom of choice, full pursuit of socialist democratic values and showed strong concern for human values.
