论朱湘对英语诗歌中文化词汇的翻译

Zhu Xiang's Translation of Cultural Words in English Poems

朱湘翻译文化词汇的方法灵活多变,主要采用了音译、直译、替代、删译等方法。使用这些译法主要有两个方面的原因。其一,与文化词汇的特性有关。文化词汇与一个国家的风土人情、地理历史紧密相连,如果在译入语中很难找到、甚至找不到对应的词汇,就需要在翻译时灵活变通。其次,与译者本人的诗学追求、文化立场有一定的联系。通过对比译诗和原诗可以发现朱湘的这些译法是成功的。译诗取得了与原文相当的审美效果,实现了文化传播之目的。

Zhu Xiang adopts manifold and flexible translation methods in his poetry translation,including transliteration, literal translation, substituting, canceling and so on. The employment of these methods can boil down to two factors. Firstly, it has something to do with the unique characteristics of cultural words. Since cultural words are closely associated with a nation＇s customs,history and geography,it is very hard to find or even cannot find corresponding words to them in the receptor language. Secondly, the employment of these methods is associated with the poet＂s poetic pursuit and cultural position. Comparing the translated poems with the source poems,people can draw a conclusion that Zhu Xiang^s poetry translation methods are successful, for his poetry translation can produce the same aesthetic results as that of the source ones,which achieves the purpose of cultural transmission.
