Cognitive Analysis of Chinese and English Idioms of "Hand"

以现代认知语言学理论为依据,分析汉英语言中有关"手"的习语,揭示其中的认知基础,进一步证实了习语也是概念系统的产物,其意义是有理据的。隐喻、转喻认知和规约常识便是其意义理据所在。这三种认知机制对于习语意义的理解具有重要作用。

Based on the contemporary cognitive theory of linguistics, the thesis analyzes the idioms of ＂hand＂ in both Chinese and English, and reveals the cognitive bases in those idioms, to further prove idioms also result from conceptual system. The meaning of idioms have grounds, which are constructed from metaphor, metonymy and conventional knowledge. The three cognitive mechanisms play important role in the understanding of the meanings of idioms.
