从发展变化的历史文化大背景的"外因",从思想精神内涵的"内容",从体裁、样式、创作方法的"形式"等多方面探索研究,概括了中国古代文学的十大特征:随民族融合的历史发展而发展;受大文化环境的影响发展变化;具有时代特征;重视思想性;重视民族精神;重视群体又个性鲜明;诗词为正宗、散文为大宗,多种体裁互促互进;具有抒情传统;具有音乐美、语言美;具有现实主义、浪漫主义两种主要创作倾向。

Ten features of ancient Chinese literature are generalized in the aspects of historical and cultural background,the ideological connotation,the literacy forms,genres and writing techniques：（1）developing with the national convergence;（2） changing with the cultural backgrounds;（3） bearing a sign of times;（4） highlighting ideological connotation;（5） presenting national character;（6） stressing the public and giving prominence to the individual;（7） advocating poetry and prose writing,multy types of poetry coexisting;（8） sentiment being the tratidion;（9）focusing on beauty of rhythsm and beauty of language;（10） realism and romanticism taking the lead.
