A FORWARD VIEW OF NETWORK TECHNIQUES IN THE NEW CENTURY

本文从高速化、综合化、智能化和易用性四个方面讨论新世纪信息网络发展趋势。新世纪的信息网干线速率将从吉位（Ｇｂｐｓ） 向太位（Ｔｂｐｓ） 发展，从多种独立业务网向多媒体、多服务综合网络方向发展，因而需要新一代的综合网络模型，对网络结构及协议进行改进与简化。另一方面，综合型网络的运行与管理复杂度的增加又对网络智能化提出更高的要求，用户的广泛性对网络使用的方便性也提出了更高的要求。文中就有关问题进行了简要的分析，并对国内外典型的网络发展计划作了简要的介绍。

This paper presents a forward view of information networks in the new century, i.e. high-speed, integration, intelligence and convenience. The trunk line speed of future networks will be upgraded from Gbps level to Tbps level, and multi-service-dependent networks will undergo an transition towards integrated multi-service networks. Therefore, there is a need for new generation network models, and to simplify the network structure and protocols. Two generic models - GII and ODN for integrated multimedia and multi-service networks are briefly discussed to emphasize the complexity of the future network. Activities such as intelligent networks, active networks, network management and safety issues are briefly reviewed, and the importance of convenience for ordinary users is stressed. Finally, typical research plans worldwide are briefly reviewed.
