Criticizing and Reconstructing——Intellectual’s Humane Mission Represented in Xing Shi Yan

在晚明的社会转型时期,《型世言》的作者正如余英时先生指出的,自觉担当起重建社会道德文化秩序和对社会、政治进行批判的知识分子使命。而《型世言》正是作者以小说创作向我们展示的这种知识分子特有精神和意识的使命感。其批判是深刻而全面的,涉及到对社会政治、世情及对人格的批判,而其重建社会秩序的方式之一则是运用惩戒示警和通过善恶果报重建文化信仰。

As Mr.Yu Yingshi,the writer of Xing Shi Yan said,in the late Ming Dynasty’s climacteric,intellectuals took on consciously the mission of reconstructing the order of social ethics and culture,criticiz-ing the society and politics.The writer of Xing Shi Yan presented in this book the sense of responsibility as intellectuals,in which the critique is all-around,involving the critique of the society,politics,social and individual personality.One of the ways of reconstructing the social order is to reestablish the cultural belief by applying discipline and comeuppance propaganda.
