As one of the centers of the oriental thoughts and culture, Byzantium attracted W. B. Yeats mostly in his old age, and enabled him to write the famous poems Byzantium and Sailing to Byzantium. In the eye of the poet, Byzantium reveals the reality and the long history with the revelation and the bless of eternal soul. It not only represents the everlasting changes of the physical world but also leads the poet in his way of eternal art and life. The images created in Byzantium and Sail- ing to Byzantium testify his notion of ＂historical cycle＂ and ＂eternal art and soul＂, which is also preceding the recovery of Irish culture and art. His poetry calls for the hope brought out by the sacred flames and the returning journey to an eternal world. The poet has overcome the fear of death and obtains the eternal existence in his art journey and eternal image.
