Donald Barthelme' s post- modern novel Snow White was based on Grimms' Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs but in a quite different style. For the author' s part, intertextuality is an essential way of his "rebellious creation", while for the readers' part, it brings about their bittersweet "bliss" reading and helps them interpret Snow White' s contradictory character and her tragedy to reveal that the author' s creation is deeply influenced by the literary traditions of the pre - existent intertext and the author' s social context.
