《双城记》中的卡顿与《天龙八部》中的游坦之虽是出自中西方不同作家的笔下,但都是为爱而亡的痴情悲剧人物,而两人在人物个性、艺术形象以及激发的读者情感方面却又有着诸多不同。在英伽登现象学美学理论的视角下,卡顿的艺术形象虽简单易懂却让人体验到人性的美好、爱情的伟大,其审美价值高于艺术价值;而游坦之人物塑造复杂离奇、堪称经典却使人感到人生的痛苦迷惘,其艺术价值应在审美价值之上。
