The Effects on the Economy and Culture of Baise by the Cantonese Merchants in Modern Times

百色地处桂西右江上游,是滇黔桂三省区交界处,属于典型的"老、少、边、山、穷"地区,但其城市语言却为粤语,主要原因为近代大量粤商沿着右江进入百色城经商所带来的影响。

Located on the upper stream of You River of west Guangxi, Baise is the junction of Yunnan, Guizhou and Guangxi provinces. It is the typical ＂old, less, remote, mountainous, poor＂ area, but its city language is Cantonese, for the reason is the influence brought by a large number of Cantonese merchants who came to Baise to get into business along the You River in early modem China.
