A Study on China's Rural Images in the Novels by the North American New Immigrant Writers

北美新移民小说中的中国农村呈现为两类矛盾复杂的形象:农村是贫穷落后的需要被启蒙之地,或农村是风景优美的美好田园。从北美新移民作家对农村的隔膜、写作的价值取向和关注焦点来探讨他们小说中关于农村的书写普遍平面化的原因,剖析新移民小说中农村形象的特点,有助于我们深入理解当代小说中农村形象的建构。

There are two contradictive and complicated kinds of China＇s rural images in the novels by the North American new immigrant writers： First, the rural area is a poor and backward locality needing enlightenment ; sec- ond, the rural area is the beautiful fields. From their lack of understanding of the countryside, the value orientation of writing, and their focuses we explore the reasons of the general planarization in describing the rural area, and an- alyze the traits of rural images in new immigrant novels, which will contribute for us to comprehend the construction of rural image in the contemporary fictions thoroughly.
