Classic poems have two basic forms - one is for singing while the other is just for the pleasure of reading. Originally, lyrics are poems that can be sung. However, lyrics and poems gradually have separated from each other in recent decades, which, to a large extent, lead to them in a dilemma instead of promoting their own special value. And how to solve the dilemma becomes a common problem in literary and art circles. Based on analysis of the relationship between them their own characteristics, this essay holds that modern poetry and lyrics are not mutually exclusive but complementary to each other and can develop together.
