An Analysis of Conceptual Blending of "La/pull+N" Construction in Chinese and English

在概念合成的理论框架下,对汉英"拉/pull+N"构造的概念合成过程及其特点进行深入的分析和探讨。经研究发现,汉英"拉/pull+N"构造的概念合成过程表现出极大的相似性,具体表现为:均经历了组合、完善、扩展进而完成概念合成;概念合成均分为低层级、中层级和高层级;概念合成的层级与动名构造中结构稳定性和语义整体性成正比。这一分析进一步证实了语言单位背后的幕后认知对理解语言起着关键作用。

In the light of the Conceptual Blending Theory, this paper explores the process and characteristics of the conceptual blending of the construction ＂La（拉） ＋ N＂ in Chinese and ＂pull ＋ N＂ in English. Great similarities have been found in the comparison as represented in the following three perspectives： Blending has both been achieved through composition, completion and elaboration. Three hierarchies of the conceptual blending have been observed in both, that is, low, middle and high hierarchy. The hierarchies of the conceptual blending have both been found in direct proportion to the structural stablity and semantic integrity of the ＂V ＋ N＂ construction in the two languages. The findings once again confirm the important role that cognition has played in the comprehension of language behind different linguistic units.
