Impact of Moving Westward on the Economic and Cultural Development of Hetao Area

走西口作为我国近代史上规模宏大的移民进程,对河套地区以单一牧业经济为基础的农牧业体系形成了巨大冲击,同时也促进了农业与牧业的融合,加强了内地与口外的农牧互补。从垦荒进程、土地制度、人口增长几个方面对比了走西口前后的差异,指出走西口对河套地区经济文化发展产生了深远影响。

As the large-scale immigration process in modern Chinese history, the movements of moving westward created a huge impact on agri- culture which was based on a single animal husbandry, promoted the integration of agriculture and animal husbandry, and strengthened comple- mentary of animal husbandry and farming between China's Mainland and foreign countries. The difference before and after the movement of moving westward was discussed from several aspects of reclaim process, land system and population growth. At last, the far-reaching impact on the eco- nomic and cultural development of Hetao caused by the movement of movina westward was pointed out.
