A survey of the early Chinese translations of Shakespeare′s poems

据考查,莎士比亚最初是作为一名诗人被介绍到中国的,但直到1926年,才由朱湘首次发表了其中文译诗。1949年前,莎诗中译活动经历了译潮初兴(20世纪20年代)、译潮迭起(20世纪30年代)、译潮回落(20世纪40年代)三个阶段。

This paper points out that William Shakespeare was first introduced as a poet rather than as a dramatist to Chinese readers. However, the first Chinese translations of Shake- speare＇s poems were published in 1926, which is much later than the first Chinese translations of Shakespeare＇s dramas. Meanwhile, Chinese academia attached little importance to the study of how Shakespeare＇s poems were translated into Chinese before 1949. As a result, this paper tries to show readers in detail the three stages of Chinese translation of Shakespeare＇s poems in the 1920s, the 1930s and the 1940s respectively, which could well contribute to Chinese Shakespearean study.
