毕淑敏二十多年的创作中,数量最多影响最大的无疑是有关疾病/治疗书写的医学型小说。她的医学型叙事没有因袭前人,停留于社会层面和文化层面的写作传统,而是回归到生命层面的疾病本体、治疗本体,以生存智慧和生命美学的意义,为文学的疾病/治疗书写提供了新的经验。毕淑敏的写作根植于对疾病隐喻文化的去蔽,她寄希望于现代人对生老病死的坦然面对,寄希望于现代人拥有强大的生命伦理力量,强大到足以捍卫生命的尊严与死亡的尊严,足以清洁困扰自我的心灵死角,还自己一个敞亮洁净安详智慧的心灵天空,从而实践着文学的另一种"现代启蒙"。

Among Bi Shumin＇ s works written since the 1990s, her novels on disease or medical treat- ment are surely of the largest number and of the greatest influence. Instead of following the previous writing tradition of focusing on social and cultural aspects, Bi Shumin has in her works returned to the disease and medical treatment at the life level, thereby having supplied new experience for the literary description of dis- eases and their medical treatment based on the significance of wisdom and aesthetics of life. As her writing is rooted in uncovering the culture of illness metaphors, Bi Shumin anticipates that modern people can clamly face up to birth, senility, illness and death and enjoy a strong a bioethical power, which is powerful enough to defend the dignity of life and death, to free the mind of self-perplexing problems, and to provide modern people with a bright and spacious, clean, serene and wise mind, thus practicing another ＂modern enlighten-ment＂ in literature.
