Objective To understand wound treatment nurses' knowledge about wound pain, to know the status of wound pain management and to provide basic information for future teaching and management of wound pain. Methods A self-designed questionnaire was used to survey 85 wound treatment nurses in a large hospital in Sichuan province. The questionnaire included four parts: wound treatment nurses' knowledge about wound pain; assessment for wound pain; the frequently-used measures in wound pain management and the wound pain training for wound treatment nurses. Results Nurses lacked knowledge about wound pain. Of the total, nurses had no idea of types of wound pain accounted for 41%. Besides, 37% of the nurses believed that wound pain would not affect wound healing. Meanwhile, 25% of them regarded that wound pain is unavoidable and the status of wound pain management wasn't optimistic. Those conducted no evaluation on wound pain accounted for 28% and all the nurses thought it was indispensable to develop wound pain training. Conclusion Since the wound treatment nurses' knowledge is limited, the education of wound pain should be reinforced as the status of wound pain management needs to be improved.
