Theognis, the ancient Greek elegy poet, left countless riddles, such as his life, motherland, the time of his poetry creation, and the authorship of the poems, etc. Even the problem that whether there really was such a poet in history bred dispute. But Theogidiea , the book of poems under his name, can undoubtedly repre- sent some kind of Megara poetry tradition. The tradition firstly meant to check the political institution of city- state, and, in the same time, focused on the root of city-state political life--educating the young. Therefore, scrupulous observation into the abundant political implication in his poems may furnish chances for people to dwell on a good many problems.
