Toni Morrison's works describe the unique consumer cultural phenomenon from after the WWI to the 60s and the 70s. Jean Baudrillard's theories about consumer culture can help analyze several aspects concerning the consumer culture, such as food and drink, apparel, entertainment, brands and body consumption, and help explore the changes of African- American people's consumptive values and ethic values brought about by the mass--consumption pattern, as well as the symbolic meaning and subversive function of consumption.
