陈郁是新中国煤炭教育事业的开拓者和奠基人。1949年10月-1957年9月期间他先后担任新中国第一任燃料工业部部长、煤炭工业部部长、中国矿业学院院长等职。在此期间他积极探索中国煤炭教育事业的发展道路,推进煤炭教育事业的发展,提出了一系列有见地的教育思想,初步创建了新中国煤炭工业职工教育、干部教育和专业技术教育体系,为建国初期恢复和发展煤炭工业提供了人才保障,为新中国的煤炭教育作出了杰出的贡献,产生了深远的影响。

Chen Yu is one of the pioneers and founders of new China＇s high education on coal industry. From October 1949 to August 1957, he took the official post of the first Minister of Fuel Industry and Coal Industry and the president of China College of Mining and Technology. In his lifetime, Chen tried to explore the development of Chinese high education of coal industry and has made a great improvements. His valuable thoughts on education and establishment of the new educational system for worker＇s training, cadre education and technological education in coal industry have contributed a lot to the new China＇s economic recovery.
