How has China changed during the past 10 to 20 years? Several foreign friends working in China recall their experience and compare notes. Foreign Exchange Certificates (FEC, the 'foreigner’s currency') was abandoned in 1994, signaling equal access, for Chinese and foreigners, to the same products. Mr. John Lombard also witnessed an important cultural change: 'I’ve noticed a big shift in Chinese attitudes towards helping others since the Wenchuan earthquake, and the younger generation would like to help others, the unknown, not only their family and folks.'
