摘要
2001年,在深圳的一次艺术创作活动上,我第一次见到了张燕根。当时他给我的印象是为人诚恳、技艺熟练。后来才知道,他是一个有着丰富的"驻村"创作经验的艺术家,所以,对于这类国际创作活动,他显得得心应手,驾轻就熟。所谓"驻村",是当代国际艺术界的一种创作方式,即根据一定的创作计划,在特定的地点组织创作营,定期邀请来自不同国家的优秀艺术家,进行现场创作,同时进行学术交流。这种"驻村"活动对于扩展艺术家的国际视野,广泛吸取来自世界各地的文化艺术的滋养,具有非常重要的作用。
We can find a strong personality in Zhang Yangen’s works, which show his rich background knowledge of Chinese painting and international artistic vision and experience, his versatility in various fields and his reflection upon artistic expression. Besides, he displays his fine command of space in his works and his unique insight into life. Therefore, his public art basically features abstract modeling, not only filling the gap in Chinese sculpture but having far-reaching significance by setting an example.
