Mongolian cairns are sacred sites for sacrificial rites, and places where women are strictly forbidden. Sacrificial rites at Mongolian cairns are never done randomly; they are held on precisely fixed dates each year. It is believed that the rains ofthe year will be good when the rite is performed. Cairn rites used to be among the most important annual rituals for all of the nomadic Mongolian people.
