Postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) is a common clinical complication after surgery in elderly patients, mainly affecting cognitive and memory functions, personal, spiritual and other social activities. POCD is one of the cogni- tive disorders, gradually being valued by patients and medical workers today but its etiology and pathogenesis is unclear. The use of the basic principles of philosophy, master of sciences, methodology and dialectical way of thinking, in analyzing the etiology and pathogenesis of POCD is a better guide to clinical work.
