This study quantitatively analyzed the relationship between English learning anxiety and English listening and oral proficiency in Chinese university students of non-English major. The results showed that proportions of rating their listening and oral proficiency as "very bad" multiplied with the increase of the anxiety.Compared with students with low anxiety, students with moderate anxiety had a 4-fold increased risk of falling into "very bad" category for both listening and oral proficiency, and students with high anxiety had 11-fold and 13-fold increased risks of falling into "very bad" category for listening and oral proficiency respectively. The results suggest that a high-anxiety state can produce sizeable negative effects on English listening and oral proficiency, much more than low and moderate anxiety states.
