Professor Zhou Nanjing is a returned Chinese from Indonesia. He graduated from Beijing University in 1958 and has since devoted himself to overseas Chinese studies for over half a century. His contributions include the epochal Overseas Chinese Dictionary and Overseas Chinese Encyclopedia, numerous monographs and articles on overseas Chinese, and original theories regarding the definition of overseas Chinese, periodical division of overseas Chinese history, and the fundamental cause of anti-Chinese bias in Southeast Asia. He has strongly opposed the ideas of dual-citizenship, re-sinification, and a pan-Chinese economic zone that have recently been popular among some scholars. His achievements are a towering monument in the field of overseas Chinese studies.
