This article starts with an extensive analysis of the content of the TEM4 and TEM8 papers for 2011, focusing on topical domains and types of genre of test input as well as design of questions. Then, the article moves on to present and analyze the descriptive data of-TEM4/8-2011. On the basis of the overall qualitative and quantitative analysis, the article selects 10 TEM8 writing scripts for detailed investigation, with a view to identifying features or problems of student writing. The article ends with suggestions for pedagogic instruction for English language majors.
