Healthy university students' fingernails were collected and some mieroelement levels were determined by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometer (ICP - OES). As a result, the levels of Fe, Zn, Cu, Mn in fingernails were 39. 12 ±57.89 μg/ g, 118.83 ±30.40 μg/g, 7. 11 ±4.24 μg/g and 0. 66 ±0.78 μg/g, respectively. The level of Fe was significantly lower in female students than in male students. As an accuracy and simple method, it reflects the healthy condition of university students and also provides the basic data for fingernails as biomarkers.
