Legal research can be divided into legal theory research and legal engineering research on the basis of research objectives and mode of thinking.Legal theory research is an intellectual activity committed to revealing 'rules' in the existence and functioning of law , with rule-oriented , neutral , logical and observation-based thinking as its typical features.Legal engineering research , by contrast , is an intellectual activity aimed at constructing an ideal framework of legal institutions and operational mechanisms by comprehensively employing the 'rules' of law and other intellectual and theoretical resources.Such research is typically characterized by problem-and demand-oriented , creative , participative , non-logical , systematic and outcomes-focused thinking.
