Selection marker genes play critical roles in distinguishing transformants and non-transformants in the development of genetic modified organisms（GMOs）.It is very important to choose appropriate selection marker gene and correspondent selective agents to succeed in generating GM plants.The paper briefly reviews the main plant selection marker genes which have been utilized in plant genetic transformation so far.
