The newly-published IEC standards, IEC 61643-11：2011 was compared with the old version stand- ard IEC 61643-1：2005. The significant changes in the content and the corresponding cause were analyzed. The surge protective device（SPD） manufacturers, SPD testing laboratories and SPD users could learn the changes in the new standard and grasp new requirements and test methods quickly.
