Some of the religious rites conducted under the influence of primitive religion have developed into the tradition- al sports we see today among the Hani people. Muoqiu is one of them. Muoqiu sport is in a close relationship of mutual pro- motion with religion. With its mysterious origin, unique movement pattern, regionally distinctive characteristics, and rich cultural connotations, Muoqiu still plays an important role in the social life of the Hani people. Therefore, it is very mean ingful to preserve this sport, to help it stay vibrant, vigorous, and healthy, and to ensure its orderly development.
